THE Ministry of Works (KKR) has already implemented proactive measures to ensure the smooth and structured introduction of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system, even before receiving recommendations from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), said Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
Nanta told the Dewan Rakyat today, he expressed appreciation for the PAC’s thorough evaluation of the MLFF system, acknowledging its importance in enhancing the nation’s road infrastructure and overall transport safety.
He pointed out that while the ministry welcomes the PAC’s recommendations, KKR had already taken steps in line with these suggestions to ensure the system is implemented effectively.
“We value the PAC’s careful assessment of this significant initiative, which plays a crucial role in improving the quality and efficiency of Malaysia’s road and transport systems,” Nanta said. “It is worth noting that proactive measures were already in motion prior to the PAC’s proposals to ensure that the MLFF system is rolled out in an organized and strategic manner.”
Nanta emphasized the need for a comprehensive study of the MLFF system, as noted by the PAC, before any final decisions are made. He assured that KKR is committed to conducting a thorough evaluation of the technical, operational, and financial aspects of the system, with the goal of ensuring a smooth and effective transition that will benefit all road users.
“The ministry remains dedicated to working closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that this project aligns with national interests and further enhances the efficiency of Malaysia’s toll collection process,” he added.
Yesterday, the PAC presented six key recommendations regarding the MLFF system in the Dewan Rakyat. One of the primary suggestions was for KKR and the Malaysian Highway Authority to conduct a more detailed cost-benefit analysis. The committee raised concerns that the MLFF system alone may not fully resolve congestion on toll roads, highlighting the need for further evaluation before the system’s implementation. – February 19, 2025
